This one supplement can significantly lower the chances of cancer

Squamous cell carcinoma is the second-most common cancer of the skin.

Immune suppression and excessive exposure to ultraviolet light are thought to increase the risk of this type of skin cancer.

But low levels of ultraviolet light exposure are now known to increase the risk of many diseases. So UV/sun avoidance is a problem.

A recent study showed the ginseng supplements can significantly lower the risk of developing this type of skin cancer.

Meaning ginseng can be a smart supplement for sun-lovers.

The animal experiments were carried out at Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China. The results were published in the Journal of Ginseng Research.

Ginseng has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years.

It is reported to increase longevity and lower the risk of cancer.

This research questioned the ability of ginseng to prevent the onset of a common type of skin cancer.

“The study aims at investigating the chemopreventive effects of ginseng on cutaneous carcinoma and the underlying mechanisms.”

The researchers carried out experiments on mice. Mice were exposed to a number of chemicals which reliably cause this type of skin cancer.

“The mouse skin cancer model was induced by a combination of chemicals.”

Some mice were given ginseng supplements. The supplements were started before, or during exposure to the cancer-causing chemicals.

Ginseng lowered the risk of developing skin cancer.

Ginseng also slowed the growth of skin cancer — when the supplement had been given after cancer had started.

“Ginseng treatment inhibited cutaneous carcinoma in terms of initiation and promotion.”

There is evidence that suggests immune problems can increase risk of developing skin cancer.

The researchers found that ginseng had potent effects on the immune system — which can explain its anti-cancer effect.

“Ginseng and its active components modulated the immune response.”

Ginseng also limited oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can damage cells and DNA — leading to cancer.

“Ginseng treatment inhibited the promotion of skin cancer by maintaining cellular redox homeostasis.”

The results indicate that ginseng could lower the risk of developing skin cancer, and slow its progression via a different mechanism.

“Ginseng can be potentially used for cutaneous carcinoma as a chemopreventive agent by enhancing cell-mediated immunity and maintaining redox homeostasis.”

Millions of people suffer from this type of skin cancer every year. The disease has a number of effective treatments.

But these treatments often have pretty severe side-effects.

“Most of the patients with this disease can be successfully treated with multimodalities involving surgery, along with radiotherapies, chemotherapies, photodynamic therapies, targeted therapies, and immune therapies.”

One of the reasons researchers were so interested in ginseng is because of its very low risk of side-effects.

There are already a number of studies which show that ginseng could slow the progression of cancer.

“Ginseng and has also been demonstrated as chemopreventive agents for multiple tumors in various preclinical research studies.”

In humans, ginseng consumption is associated with a lower risk of many different types of cancer.

“Ginseng intake has been positively associated with decreased risk of development of head and neck, breast, stomach, colon, and lung cancers.”

Ginseng could lower the risk of skin cancer without exposing people to a high risk of side effects.

“For the first time, the study shows that ginseng effectively prevented skin cancer in both initiation and promotion phases, which meanwhile cannot lead to weight loss or other obvious side effects.”

The researchers hope the results will lead to further studies.

“Hence, ginseng is a potential skin cancer chemopreventive agent, which deserves future clinical trials.”

You should always consult a healthcare practitioner about treating and diagnosing health-related problems.
