Constipation is one of the worst enemies of good health.
And, because food sits in the bowel for longer, essentially rotting, when you are constipated, your body has a bigger load of bacterial endotoxins to handle.
Ideally, you would defecate at least twice per day. Or even three times per day.
However, if you are going less often than once a day that’s a sign your liver is overwhelmed by dealing with the endotoxins created by the bacteria in your intestinal system.
As I have learned more and more about this, I have become less and less enamored with most probiotic supplements.

However, if you are chronically constipated there is one that may be worth trying.
Here is a simple study about it:
In this study, 20 people who had chronic constipation were given a probiotic called lactobacillus reuteri.
Other than that, the participants went on about their lives pretty much as always.
They didn’t even change their eating habits.
The researchers measured the number of bowel movements, stool consistency, and also the amount of methane that each person exhaled in their breath.
Bacterial activity in the body results in the production of gases.
Bacteria in the colon produce methane.
Some of this is, to be blunt, farted out.
But some of it is absorbed into the body and expelled in the breath.
Within a few weeks of beginning to use L. Reuteri, the participants’ constipation was almost completely fixed.
And the methane in their breath had all but disappeared.
If you are chronically constipated, it may be a good idea for you to try L. reuteri. I would start with a small amount and then gradually increase the amount and see if it actually helps you.
Here is one brand. There are many others.
Check with your doctor first to make sure that you are on safe ground before beginning anything new. In the study, they gave the subjects L. Reuteri for four weeks. I’m not aware of any long-term component to the study.
