It’s one of the reasons why so many guys just go to work, get in the car, come home, and sit in front of the TV.

When you’re exhausted it’s just easier to let life wash over you.

But if you’d like to put some zest back into life and start feeling excited about living again – it’s totally possible.

AND it turns out that at least part of the solution may be a lot easier than you think.

It only sounds like a good idea to mix business and pleasure.

In a world where we are ALWAYS 100% connected, it’s easy to think, “Oh, I’ll just check my emails at home” – or any other version of working on your off hours.

And a lot of companies expect it as well.

“In working life, it’s now almost expected that employees answer work-related emails after hours, or take their laptops with them on holiday.”

But it may end up being a bad idea – not only for your personal life but also for your professional life.

“The blurring of boundaries between work and personal life can affect people’s sense of wellbeing and lead to exhaustion.”

The energy suck in your back pocket…

This exhaustion effect just keeps getting worse.

With cell phones able to alert you to work chats through email, Skype, Twist, or Slack (along with a multitude of other apps)…

And Facebook, Instagram, and other social media pinging you all the time…

There is no time to think, reflect, or relax.

This constant barrage of information leads to an inability to recover from the demands of life.

The problem is that even though employers SHOULD help you figure this out, they probably won’t.

They want you to be working all the time.

So you need to figure it out for yourself.

Because to bring your best to your work you MUST have time to recover.

But don’t despair, there is a fairly easy way to reduce this exhaustion effect that won’t have your boss yelling at you.

It involves a simple experiment that allows your brain some downtime but still lets you engage when you need to.

The experiment for a big boost in happiness and productivity…

Here’s the experiment I propose.

Designate two hours daily and at least half a day each week for some non-electronic time.

And make sure you turn your cell phone OFF.

This is important: Don’t just turn the sound off, but you power it down completely.

Otherwise, it’s too tempting to check it.


You also may need to get an analog clock or watch in order to know how much time has passed without your phone. But it’s so worth it.

The first time you try this, you’ll probably end up feeling REALLY uncomfortable.

That is not unusual at all.

It’s hard to start letting go of the electronics, because they are so engaging.

But I guarantee that whatever is coming up on your phone can wait for two hours.

Give yourself two weeks of two hours a day of non-electronic time…

And see if you don’t feel more excited and energized about life.

It really works!
