How coffee naturally raises testosterone levels in men
Coffee consumption has remarkable health benefits.
Coffee drinkers live longer.
They are less likely to develop dementia, less likely to have liver disease, and less likely to develop many types of cancer.
A number of studies have found that there are benefits to increasing coffee intake up to about four cups per day.
Recently, researchers found that men who drink four or more cups of coffee per day have higher testosterone and lower estrogen.
The improvements in these hormones mean less inflammation, increased male vitality, and lower risk of many chronic diseases.
The human research took place at the School of Public Health, Nanjing Medical University in China.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results.
Coffee consumption is clearly linked to increased longevity and a lower risk of developing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer.
“Coffee consumption has been linked to lower risk of various health outcomes.”
This research was carried out in order to understand some of the mechanisms by which coffee improves health.
“The biological pathways mediating these associations remain poorly understood.”
The researchers decided to investigate common markers of disease that are detectable from blood tests.
They selected a number of these biomarkers that are implicated in the most common chronic diseases.
“We assessed the association between coffee consumption and concentrations of plasma biomarkers in key metabolic and inflammatory pathways underlying common chronic diseases.”
The researchers tested 14 biomarkers in the blood of the participants.
These included testosterone and two different types of estrogen.
“We investigated the associations of total, caffeinated, and decaffeinated coffee consumption with 14 plasma biomarkers, including estrone, estradiol, total, and free testosterone.”
The researchers used records from blood samples taken in two previous studies.
Both of these studies also included questionnaires detailing coffee consumption of the participants.
In total, the researchers had data on over 22,000 people.
“Data were derived from two cohorts of 15,551 women and 7,397 men, who provided detailed dietary data before blood draw and were free of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer at the time of blood draw.”
The researchers used the data to analyze the relationship between the biomarkers and different types of coffee in both men and women.
People who drank four or more cups of coffee had lower estrogen than people who drank no coffee at all.
Estrone and estradiol are two common types of estrogen.
“Compared with nondrinkers, participants who drank four or more cups of total coffee/d had lower concentrations of estrone (−6.4%), total estradiol (−5.7%), free estradiol (−8.1%).”
Estrogens are inflammatory, and high levels of estrogen are associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Estrogen can also be feminizing for men.
Men who drank four cups of coffee had higher testosterone levels.
“Compared with nondrinkers, participants who drank four or more cups of coffee had higher concentrations of total testosterone (+5.3%).”
Higher testosterone and lower estrogen will not only lower the risk of chronic diseases, but could improve sexual performance.
Most people know that low testosterone can cause erectile dysfunction.
But high estrogen is also a cause of erectile dysfunction.
The study shows that four cups of coffee per day can significantly improve your health by modulating hormone levels.
The results are not due to the effects of caffeine either.
The researchers found that both normal coffee and decaffeinated coffee had similar effects.
“The results were largely similar for caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee.”
The study also showed improvements in the other biomarkers that were included in the blood tests.
“Coffee consumption is associated with favorable profiles of numerous biomarkers in key metabolic and inflammatory pathways.”
