This 1 nutrient helps prevent diabetes in men
One of the problems in type II diabetes is elevated free fatty acids.
These free fatty acids damage the pancreas, and also interfere with uptake of blood sugar by the cells.
Lowering free fatty acids helps with type II diabetes – and one thing that can do this is a type of vitamin B3 called niacinamide.
I’ve written about this at length in my newsletters.
But research also shows that this same nutrient can help to prevent type I diabetes.
In a large experiment carried out in New Zealand, it was found that supplemental niacinamide could half the risk of children developing type I diabetes.
The human research was carried out at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. The paper was published in the Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism.
“It has been postulated that treatment with niacinamide may prevent or delay the onset of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.”
The paper reports on a trial looking at a large population of children in New Zealand.
“33,658 school children aged 5-8 years were randomly selected from a total population of such children in the Auckland region.”
The parents of the children were offered testing for islet cell antibodies.
These are antibodies which attack the insulin producing cells of the pancreas.
These antibodies are one of the triggers for type I diabetes.
The majority of the children were enrolled in the screening.
“They were offered testing for islet cell antibodies. 20,195 (60%) consented to testing.”
Almost 1% of the children were positive for the type I diabetes antibodies.
The majority of these children agreed to start taking niacinamide (vitamin B3) supplements.
“Of these 185 had islet cell antibodies and met the criteria for treatment with niacinamide. 173 received this treatment.”
The researchers tracked all of the participants of the study and the average follow-up time was about 7 years.
The overall rate of type I diabetes in this age group is about 16 in 100,000.
“The diabetes incidence of the untested controls was: 16 /100,000 person years at risk.”
The researchers found that the incidence of type I diabetes was far lower in the group who were screened and treated with niacinamide.
Screening – and treating those with positive antibodies with niacinamide – seems to reduce the incidence of type I diabetes by more than half.
“In the group who were tested and treated with niacinamide when deemed appropriate the diabetes incidence was 7 in 100,000.”
The researchers found that the group of children whose parents did not consent to the antibody testing…
…had rates of type I diabetes at around the same rate as the general population (18.5 versus 16 per 100,000).
“In the group offered testing but who did not consent the incidence was 18.5.”
This research indicates that early niacinamide treatment can massively reduce the risk of developing type I diabetes in children and teenagers.
“The tested and treated group had a rate of diabetes of 41% of the other groups combined after an age adjustment, which is significant.”
This is yet another study which shows the potential benefits of this form of vitamin B3 in both types of diabetes.
Niacinamide is a relatively safe supplement and there is lots of research showing that it has major benefits for overall health.
“Niacinamide has a protective effect against the development of insulin dependent diabetes in this setting.”
The researchers called for further research into the effect of niacinamide in type I diabetes in children.
“Further follow up may define the magnitude of the protective effect within narrower limits.”
This study used 500mg of slow release niacinamide twice a day.
Be aware that niacinamide is different from other forms of B3 – you should not expect the same benefits from niacin, for example.
Niacinamide can also lower blood sugar a lot in some people and 500mg can be a large dose in these cases.
Always test much lower doses first to see your sensitivity.

This special breakfast regulates blood sugar and raises T in men
Blood sugar and testosterone are all connected.
When blood sugar is too high, testosterone falls too low…
This is why a man with blood sugar problems or diabetes almost always has erections problems, low libido, and low testosterone.
It’s blood sugar to blame.
And you get great blood sugar while naturally raising T…
…if you eat the right breakfast every morning that costs less than a dollar to make…
