This 1 food raises testosterone while lowering estrogen
The taste of beef liver really divides people. Some love it – some hate it.
But the nutritional benefits of beef liver are without dispute.
This traditional food contains massive amounts of vitamins and minerals…
Many of which are difficult to get in the diet from other sources.
Of particular interest is real vitamin A.
Vitamin A is essential for many things including the immune system. This is pretty well-known.
What is less well-known is the fact that vitamin A can help men to control the hormones.
Vitamin A prevents the body from converting valuable testosterone into inflammatory estrogen.
It does this by lowering the enzyme which destroys testosterone – something called aromatase.
I think almost everyone should eat 4 to 6 ounces of beef liver per week.
These cell experiments were carried out at the University of Texas at Austin. The results were published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
The body uses dozens of hormones. These hormones are converted from one into another by enzymes.
Estrogen is a hormone which causes inflammation.
A little estrogen might be useful right after injury – but for the most part we suffer from excess inflammation because estrogen is too high.
The enzyme aromatase creates estrogen out of testosterone.
So when aromatase is high, testosterone levels tend to drop and we become inflamed with excess estrogen.
Most men, and most women for that matter, could do with lowering aromatase significantly.
One of the inflammatory problems which can be triggered by estrogen/aromatase is cancer.
“Aromatase converts testosterone into estrogens and is thought to supply a local source of estrogen that facilitates the growth of hormone-responsive tumor cells.”
This study looked at how real vitamin a (retinol) and related vitamin A derivatives affected aromatase levels in human cancer cells.
“We investigated the effect of retinol and selected retinoids on the activity and expression of aromatase in two human carcinoma cell lines in vitro.”
This was cancer research – you see if you can lower aromatase you might be able to slow the progression of cancer.
“Inhibition of aromatase is an important chemo preventative strategy.”
The study showed that the real vitamin A decreased aromatase.
“Retinol and all-trans retinoic acid significantly inhibited aromatase activity in a concentration-dependent manner.”
This type of vitamin A is found in large amounts in beef liver – it’s almost impossible to get enough in other foods.
There is no vitamin A in plant foods – beta-carotene does not have the same effects – it doesn’t count.
The vitamin A found in beef liver can lower estrogen and increase testosterone levels. This can help you feel stronger, more youthful and more vibrant. This is why men should eat liver.
It could also lower the risks of diseases like cancer and dementia.
Vitamin A could fight cancer because it directly attacks the enzyme which creates estrogen – which accelerates some tumors.
“Aromatase activity and expression are a molecular target of retinol and chemopreventive retinoids, an activity that may underlie, in part, their inhibitory effects on hormone-dependent cancer.”
It is possible to supplement vitamin A if you don’t like the taste of beef liver.
But beef liver also contains massive amounts of other, hard-to-find nutrients.
As with anything, there are downsides too.
Beef liver contains quite a lot of iron – which can be a problem if you get too much.
For this reason it is best not to eat liver all the time.
You can get enough vitamin A and other minerals by eating 4 to 6 ounces of beef liver per week – thereby avoiding excess iron.
