Watch out — being low in this 1 hormone increases cancer risk

Energy is the very center of health.

The production of energy within the cell’s mitochondria is essential for building and maintaining every part of the body’s structure.

There is not a single aspect of health that does not depend on a solid foundation of energy.

Thyroid hormones are one of the catalysts for cellular energy production.

If you do not have adequate thyroid hormones, you cannot produce adequate energy – there is no substitute for thyroid.

This is why thyroid problems can lead to any and all health problems.

In one example, low thyroid hormones lead to shrinking of the thymus gland.

The thymus is responsible for keeping a lookout for cancer cells and infectious agents.

It is also responsible for producing proteins which destroy cancer and pathogens.

This is why low thyroid can increase your risk of cancer and serious infection.

The animal experiments were performed at Ain Shams University, Abbassia, Cairo, Egypt. The paper was published in Cell and Tissue Research.

“The thymus, as part of the immune-neuroendocrine axis, is greatly influenced by factors from most endocrine glands, especially the thyroid.”

The researchers made rats hypothyroid by using treatments which block the release of thyroid hormones.

“Antithyroid ‘treatments’ were used to induce hypothyroidism in rats.”

The researchers carried out examinations of the thymus gland after 4 and 7 weeks to see if low thyroid hormones had any effect on the thymus gland.

“Histological and ultrastructural examination of the thymus showed progressive thymic involution after 4 weeks of ‘chemical’ treatment to the end of observations.”

The researchers discovered that hypothyroidism triggers thymic involution – the shrinking of the thymus gland.

The shrinking of the thymus gland is something that tends to happen with age.

It accelerates greatly after the age of 60, when people become far more susceptible to cancers and life-threatening infections.

The decreased immunity from involution of the thymus gland is one of the major reasons for this.

“The involution was characterized by increased thymocyte apoptosis and thymocyte phagocytosis by macrophages.”

Hypothyroidism led to increased death and destruction of thymus cells.

Thymus cells are responsible for producing disease-detecting proteins and proteins which destroy cancer cells, viruses, and bacterial invaders.

“This resulted in thymocyte depopulation, increases in numbers of interdigitating cells, alterations to mainly subcapsular and medullary epithelial cells.”

The researchers also uncovered evidence that the body may be becoming less tolerant to itself…

…and more likely to misidentify its own cells and proteins as foreign – something which increases the risk of autoimmune disease.

“Lymphoid cells immuno-reactive with MRC OX12 were observed within blood vessel walls, suggesting that they may have been moving in and out of the thymus.”

These anti-thyroid treatments cause the thymus to shrink – decreasing immunity and increasing the risk of immune system problems.

But many, many people who are not taking these treatments are suffering…

…because they have insufficient levels of thyroid hormones in their bodies as it is.

“The administration of ‘treatments’ causing hypothyroidism, therefore, also caused marked involution of the thymus.”

Anybody who has a chronic health condition should have their thyroid fully checked out.

As the thyroid hormone T3 helps cells to produce energy, any problem in the body could possibly be traced back to insufficient thyroid hormones…

…and insufficient energy.

It’s wise to find a doctor who takes a very broad view of thyroid health.

A doctor who just looks at the TSH labs will probably not give your thyroid the attention it needs.

You should seek to find a healthcare professional who pays attention to thyroid hormones – particularly T3 – the active thyroid hormone.

So much of our health depends on optimal T3 levels.
