Beware foods and supplements that are made from mold — extremely toxic mold residues are causing bad health problems in men
In an ideal world, we would all live in a pristine environment…eating nutrient dense, whole foods…
While we do the best we can, that ideal environment and diet will never exist.
In reality, most of us have to eat at least some processed foods and take some supplements with additives.
Some of these additives are pretty low risk, others are fine in low doses, but I think some should be avoided altogether.
Citric acid falls into that last category.
The citric acid which is added to foods and supplements is produced in a lab by mold.
This mold is a potent allergen which causes numerous health problems.
And it’s pretty clear that the processing of this type of citric acid is insufficient to remove all of the harmful byproducts produced by the mold.
The human research was carried out at the University of Illinois. The findings are published in Toxicology Reports.
Citric acid was named after citrus fruits – where it was originally discovered.
Citric acid from fruits poses no health problems whatsoever.
But the citric acid which is added to processed foods and supplements is impure – and it comes from a very allergenic type of mold.
“Citric acid naturally exists in fruit and vegetables – but it is not the naturally occurring citric acid which is used as a food and beverage additive. 99% of the world’s production of manufactured citric acid is produced by the fungus aspergillus niger.”
This fungus is a well-known allergen.
Manufactured citric acid made from mold made its way into the food supply without any testing at all…
…because it had been used since 1919, it was certified GRAS – generally recognised as safe.
“The FDA placed this citric acid in the category of GRAS (safe) without any research to substantiate this claim.”
This paper outlines 4 different case reports whereby people had severe health issues that they felt were triggered by a number of foods.
These foods included numerous energy drinks, energy snack bars, preserved grape leaves, hummus, instant oatmeal, jellybeans, ranch flavored potato chips, tonic water and even vitamin C.
The 1 thing all of these suspicious foods have in common is that they have mold-manufactured citric acid as an additive.
One woman suffered joint and muscle pain, joint swelling, abdominal bloating, cramping and other symptoms…
All within 6 to 12 hours of ingesting one of these foods.
“She saw rheumatologists, immunologists and allergists, none of whom found an explanation. She underwent extensive work-ups for auto-immune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, vitamin deficiencies, as well as adrenal and thyroid imbalance, all of which were negative.”
Once she stopped avoiding citric acid all of these symptoms went away.
“At age 47, she began avoiding all foods with manufactured citric acid and noticed a remarkable absence of symptoms.”
The second case report was a 68-year-old man…
…who suffered lung problems, inflammation, stiffness and swelling after consuming manufactured citric acid.
“He notes that inadvertently ingesting prepared foods with any amount of manufactured citric acid results and recurrence of his symptoms.”
Again, avoiding manufactured citric acid resolved all his symptoms.
Another 75-year-old woman suffered joint pain, muscle pain, swelling, etc.
This woman had also spent years going to various specialists to try and resolve the problems.
She discovered that her symptoms always showed up between 6 and 12 hours after consuming manufactured citric acid.
“The severity of symptoms after ingesting foods containing manufactured citric acid directly correlated with the amount consumed.”
Avoidance solves most of her problems too.
The final case report contained in this paper, a 43-year-old woman reported a lifetime of almost pristine eating.
This woman was a vegetarian who made all the food from fresh ingredients at home.
And then one day she decided she needed a little supplemental vitamin C.
“At age 41 she began ingesting an effervescent form of vitamin C tablets on a regular basis.”
She developed severe fatigue during this time period.
Luckily for her, she was observant and didn’t take the vitamin C supplement every day.
She eventually figured out that the vitamin C supplement was causing her tiredness.
Later, she tested a different brand of vitamin C.
This produced no symptoms and she noticed that the only difference in ingredients was the lack of manufactured citric acid.
“She did not experience any symptoms with the new form of vitamin C ‘tablets’ that did not contain manufactured citric acid.”
All of these symptoms can be explained by allergenic or otherwise inflammatory compounds produced by mold which make their way into the manufactured citric acid product.
Foods and supplements with “citric acid” are far more trouble than they’re worth.
(Except for the 1% which use fruit based citric acid.)
—-Important Message About Boosting Vitamin C—-
Here’s why I don’t recommend vitamin C supplements for men
The vitamin C supplements that you get from the pharmacy or the grocery store, or even an expensive health food store…
All of these vitamin C supplements are a waste of money.
They’re a waste of money because as soon as you take them, you just pee all the vitamin C right out.
Check the toilet bowl after you take one — notice how it’s bright yellow…
The vitamin C immediately comes out in your pee because it’s water-soluble.
So it can’t permeate the cells and tissues and organs effectively.
It’s wasted before your body can get any use out of it.
So what men need is a special form of vitamin C that’s fat-soluble…so it sticks around in the bloodstream and bathes all the cells and organs with vitamin C…
